5 Must Have a.Bags

Seems like I’m obsessed with the color blue in the past few looks I’ve posted. I just loved the fun playful prints from Prada’s Spring Summer 2012 collection and this was definitely on the top of my list!
(Shirt from Prada, Blazer from H&M, Slacks from Black Label, Shoes from Marc Jacobs, Bag from YSL, Accessories from Hermes and Charriol)
I tried to have pants tailor made here in Singapore and I couldn’t find any decent ones until a dear friend of mine introduced me to this one called Black Label. The gray slacks I’m wearing right now is one of their pieces and I just love how comfy and customized to me it felt. I’ll write more about them in the coming days so for now, enjoy this sneak peak of their work.
It seems that minimalism rules the runway this year as Prada showcases a collection that is devoid of any brightness & patterns for her Spring-Summer 2013 Menswear collection. Unlike her past 2 season’s where we saw a lot of emphasis on floral or cartoon patterns and bright, vibrant colors, this season focuses on color blocking and influence most likely taken from sportswear given the track suits and tennis bands.
A white band seemed to be the cohesive link to the entire collection – featured prominently on the insides of slim cut slacks, to the neckline of a top or even the cross strap of flat leather sandals. Much later on in the show, you’ll see these bands progress into more “summer” colors such as bordeaux, bright and deep blue, greens and off-white and beige – but honestly you won’t see much other than these. I thought that the colors used were more suited for Fall as I’ve seen designers such as Céline use them in previous Fall collection(s).
I can’t say that I’m thrilled with this showing, as I personally prefer to stick with bright colors and patterns for Spring Summer and to top it off I’m not too much into sportswear. But that being said, I think Mama Miuccia did an impeccable job in landing a very avant grade collection, whilst ensuring strong appeal amongst a lot of people. What I love though about the collection is the exquisite sense of layering used to achieve a full look – which is more or less my forte [lol!]. Also, the attention to detail is evident in each of the looks mainly delivered via the use of a band of color to arrive at various color blocked pieces, my faves of which would be the striking sandals, the polo tees and round neck shirts with pops of vibrant colors on the collar and buttons as well as [surprised as I am] those trousers with bands of color on the inner portion, which I dare say is very very sexy on a man! Rarr!
That’s about it for Prada this upcoming season. So far, minimalism seems to rule the runway for SS 2013. Fitting for the come back of Jil Sander no [LOL!]? I think I’ve only seen a couple of shows where bright colors & patterns were at the forefront of their designs such as those of Dolce & Gabbana, Jonathan Saunders and Versace. As for the rest, color or striking details are used at a bare minimum to achieve a shocking effect on classic, contemporary pieces. We’ll see how it goes for the few more shows I’m quite keen to catch up on, so do watch out for those!
Roman Polanski directs this new video for Prada starring Helena Bonham Carter and Ben Kingsley. I just love the concept and the idea! Simple yet striking – it captures the emotion very well of seeing something and the feeling that it evokes…you know you just got to have it! Brava!!!
(Raoul White Zipped Shirt, Topman Dark Blue Shorts, Prada Creeper Brogues, Karl Cut-Off Gloves, Yves Saint Laurent Woven Leather Bracelet, Hermes Kelly Double Tour Bracelet)
The 7th look in the collection begins to explore looks that are perfect for the Summer season. I’ve paired Raoul’s White Zipped Shirt - which is absolutely one of my favorite pieces from the collection – with deep blue short pants, my Prada Creeper Brogues and I’ve accessorized it with leather bracelets that help highlight the color scheme. To top it all off, I added Cut-Off Gloves just to help toughen up the look and add more pizzaz – it’s actually very biker chic if I think about it.
If you’re curious about the zip detail on the shirt, click on next to see a zoomed in shot of the shirt. I really loved how Raoul spruced up the classic white shirt with just this minor addition of a detail and of course by playing up with the material. It’s brilliant actually!
I am not one who takes an instant liking to shoes that have a sense of timeless grace to them – I’m more of here and now when it comes to the type of shoes I fall for – but I must say that I was extremely impressed with the latest Hand Made Shoe Designs from Prada.
These shoes are now available for order online [CLICK HERE] I must say I’m very tempted to get a pair myself. One of my very favorites would be this photo you see above which is made of antiquated calf leather. I adore the buckled strap with the fringe and perforated design you see all over. It just screams timeless elegance with a modern twist if you ask me, more so if you see the white version of this on the next page. I’m just screaming with sheer delight!
It took me a while to make this post as I’ve been crazy busy like hell but I just had to write about Friday last week as it was so fun and light! We had a baby shower and OMG, the cake and gifts were so adorable!! Well, wasn’t able to take a photo of the gifts, but the cake…oh the cake…
If it wasn’t sinful enough to look at, it tasted fantabulous as well! Cray cray!! As the day went on, noticed that it was prints day and of course, why not have fun and take a photo of beautiful people right?
